Nation of Islam celebrates 80 years of service to the Black community and the country; Minister Farrakhan to provide divine guidance during these uncertain times
Star-studded guests to include Wyclef Jean, Raheem DeVaughn, Susan Taylor, Dr. Iyanla Vanzant, Allen Hughes, Frank Lucas, and ‘The Real Freeway’ Rick Ross
CHICAGO—With extremely tough economic times, high levels of crime and violence, a confusing new political reality, and the fear of more horrific natural disasters such as the recent earthquake in Haiti, guidance from the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is needed now more than ever.
The Nation of Islam’s Annual Saviours’ Day Convention will be held February 26 and 27, at the Stephens Convention Center, located at 5555 N. River Road in Rosemont, IL and culminate with a keynote address “The Time and What Must Be Done” by the leader of the Nation of Islam on Feb. 28 at the United Center located at 1901 W. Madison in Chicago.
“I intend in my Saviours’ Day address to provide Divine warning and guidance from the Honorable Elijah Muhammad to the Black community to the American people and to our brother, President Barack Obama,” said Min. Farrakhan. “It is critical that everyone understand the time in which we live so that we can act in the manner that could save our lives,” he continued.
Established in 1930, this year’s convention marks the 80th year of the Nation of Islam’s service to the oppressed and down trodden in North America. Each year, to also commemorate the birth of Master W. Fard Muhammad—the founder of the Nation of Islam—members, world leaders, celebrities, and supporters from all walks of life make the journey to Chicago to attend the annual assembly. The weekend of events equips attendees with the necessary tools to forge self-improvement, community empowerment and global change.
Among the many expected to attend this year include several high profile names such as Raheem DeVaughn, “the Real Freeway” Rick Ross, Frank Lucas, Wyclef Jean, former Jamaican Ambassador Dudley Thompson, Pam Africa, Filmmaker Allen Hughes, Iyanla Vanzant and Susan Taylor of the National Cares Mentoring Movement.
During the entire weekend, much attention will be placed on the current disaster in Haiti where Min. Farrakhan has already been marshalling aid and assistance efforts from the Black community.
“Haiti needs all the assistance she can get. We in the Nation of Islam are organizing our efforts to provide relief and in the spirit of the Million Man March, The Millions Women’s March and the Millions More Movement we encourage everyone to organize their efforts into a National Response to Haiti “If we come together and speak with one voice and use the brightest and best of our minds to organize an effective response to this from the entire Black and Hispanic community of America, what a statement that would make. After we assess what we have done and the success of it, we have a working model for bad days that may soon come upon us,” said Min. Farrakhan.
The Saviours’ Day Convention begins at 9:00 am on Friday February 26 in Rosemont and culminates with the Saviours’ Day address on Sunday. Doors open at 12 noon at the United Center and the program begins at 2:00 pm. For media credentials and more information visit the Saviours’ Day website at www.noisd.org. According to its website, The Truth of God Institute “is committed to providing scholarly materials, written by its members as well writings by scholars in various disciplines, confirming and/or elaborating upon these various aspects of the answer offered by the ancient texts (read critically and independent of dogmatic presuppositions) to this important question: Who is God?”
*****
Ashahed M. Muhammad (AMM:) What are your reasons for writing books on the all encompassing subject of God?
Dr. Wesley Muhammad (WM:) Nineteen years ago, as a student at
-------------------------
(AMM:) Clearly, you believe it is important for people beyond just religious scholars to study the topic correct?
(WM:) There is in my opinion no more important a topic than God, neither theologically nor even practically considering the time in which we live. Indeed, in this day and time the proper knowledge of God is not just a matter of theological speculation; it is a matter of life and death. As the Honorable Louis Farrakhan has made clear, the great and dreadful War of Armageddon – that war between God and Satan—is no longer imminent; it is here, now, though in its early phase. The preservation of life will now depend on choosing the right side in this war. But how can we choose God if we don’t know Who God is?
Also, and equally important, the transformation of certain segments of our communities across
-------------------------
(AMM:) In your books, you deal with the subject of anthropomorphism. A complex topic, not much is known about it, though it is thoroughly dealt with by theologians and biblical scholars. Please explain further.
(WM:) The term anthropomorphism is a Greek compound from the terms anthropos meaning “man” and morphe meaning “form” and it denotes, as I use it in the Truth of God and The Book of God, belief in God’s possession of a human form or body. This was the belief of the entire ancient world of color, at least those cultures for which we have documentary evidence of their theological/mythological thinking. In ancient Kemet (
This is important because, of course, we who believe in the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad do not accept that God is an immaterial, bodiless spirit. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught us that God is a man, with a human form. Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike condemn this teaching as unbiblical and un-Islamic. I have demonstrated in the Truth of God and the Book of God that they are wrong and The Honorable Elijah Muhammad is right.
-------------------------
(AMM:) What do you want the reader to come away with after reading your books?
(WM:) I would hope that the reader comes away from the books recognizing that the scriptures in their original languages support The Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s teaching on God. I would hope that the reader comes away with a deeper understanding of the reality of God, at least as presented in the scriptures. I would hope also that such a deepened understanding aids the reader as we are today called upon to choose between God and Satan as these two prepare for open warfare. Knowing better helps one make better choices.

Autopsy: Detroit Imam slain by FBI suffered 21 gunshot wounds (FinalCall.com)
By Ashahed M. Muhammad (FinalCall.com)
Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah suffered 21 gunshot wounds and had his hands cuffed behind his back when medical examiners found him dead in a Dearborn, Michigan warehouse on Oct. 28 2009.
*****
Over three months after the controversial shooting death of Detroit-area religious leader Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah, the official autopsy results were released by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office on February 1.
The report confirmed information previously reported by The Final Call, that Imam Abdullah died after suffering 21 gunshot wounds in various parts of his body including the, abdomen, scrotum and back. According to family members and media reports, a majority of the wounds were below the waist. The imam was found dead at the scene with his hands cuffed behind him.
The autopsy was actually completed in December 2009, however, Dearborn police held up release of the autopsy until their departmental investigation was finished. This lead to widespread concern among community activists and some advocacy groups of a cover-up by local and federal law enforcement officials. Protesters demonstrated outside Dearborn police headquarters shortly after the results from the autopsy were released.
Since the Oct. 28 shooting, there have repeated calls for an independent investigation into the FBI's actions which led to the imam's death.
“The shocking details of the imam's autopsy raise a number of disturbing questions that need to be answered,” said Dawud Walid, executive director of Michigan's chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
“First of all, did the FBI agents follow established procedure when they shot the imam 21 times? How was the imam shot in the back? Was it proper procedure to handcuff either a dead body or a mortally wounded suspect? If the agents found the imam alive following the shooting, did they call for medical assistance? All these questions need answers,” said Mr. Walid.
Another question that remains to be answered is, whether a police dog was actually shot by Imam Abdullah as claimed by the FBI, or is it possible that ricocheting bullets fired by FBI agents hit the dog? FBI agents cited the shooting of the dog as the reason for their decision to use lethal force in firing at Imam Abdullah. No information has been released regarding the type of weapon Imam Abdullah allegedly used nor have any results from ballistic tests been released to prove the dog was in fact shot by the imam.
Imam Abdullah, 53, was gunned down Oct. 28 by FBI agents conducting a raid on a warehouse in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn. He was accused by the FBI of being the leader of an alleged Islamic extremist separatist group desiring to overthrow the government of the United States as well as overseeing a criminal enterprise involved in multiple federal offenses including weapons violations and trafficking in stolen goods.
Recently, a benefit concert was held in Detroit for Mujahid Carswell, one of Imam Abdullah's sons and one of 10 remaining defendants listed in the FBI's criminal complaint.
At Final Call press time, House Judiciary Chairman Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) was scheduled to participate in a Feb. 2 news conference joined by a coalition of civil rights groups including CAIR-MI, the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality, National Action Network and lawyers representing the family of the slain imam.
